General IPTV Questions
What is IPTV?
IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) delivers TV channels over your internet connection instead of through a satellite dish, cable, or aerial. You watch on an app installed on your Smart TV, Fire Stick, phone, or computer. Many legitimate services including BT TV and Sky Glass use IPTV technology.
Is IPTV legal in the UK?
The IPTV technology itself is completely legal — it's simply a method of delivering television content via the internet. The legality depends on the content being accessed and the licensing arrangements of the provider. BT TV and Sky Glass both use IPTV technology.
Do I still need a TV licence?
In the UK, a TV licence is legally required if you watch live TV broadcasts on any platform (aerial, satellite, or IPTV) or use BBC iPlayer. This applies regardless of how you receive the signal. Check the TV Licensing website for the latest guidance.
How is IPTV different from Netflix or Amazon Prime?
Netflix and Prime are on-demand streaming services with their own content libraries. IPTV delivers live TV channels — BBC, ITV, Sky, sports — as they broadcast, plus a separate on-demand library. Think of IPTV as replacing your satellite or cable TV, while Netflix replaces your DVD collection.
What internet speed do I need?
15 Mbps minimum for HD, 25 Mbps for 4K, 50 Mbps+ for multiple simultaneous streams in a household. Most UK broadband exceeds this. Test your actual speed at speedtest.net. A wired Ethernet connection delivers better results than WiFi.

Setup & Technical
How long does setup take?
Under 10 minutes. Download an app, enter your credentials, and you're watching. No engineer visit, no equipment to install. See our
device-specific setup guides.
Which app should I use?
Tivimate (Fire Stick/Android TV — best overall, £5/year for premium).
IPTV Smarters Pro (all platforms — best free option).
Smart IPTV (Samsung/LG Smart TVs).
VLC (Windows/Mac). See the
full app comparison.
What are Xtream Codes credentials?
Your login consists of a username, password, and server URL. These are sent to you by email and WhatsApp after subscribing or requesting a trial. In most IPTV apps, you'll select "Login with Xtream Codes API" and enter these three fields.
Do I need a VPN?
Not required. XtremeHD works without a VPN from any location. However, if your ISP is throttling IPTV traffic (IPTV buffers but YouTube/Netflix work fine), a VPN can help by preventing your ISP from identifying the traffic type. See our
troubleshooting guide.
Troubleshooting
Why is it buffering?
Almost always a WiFi or internet issue, not the service. Fix #1: switch to wired Ethernet. Fix #2: check your speed (need 15+ Mbps). Fix #3: increase buffer size in app settings. Fix #4: close background apps. Full solutions in our
troubleshooting guide.
Channels aren't loading — what do I do?
Check your credentials for typos (most common cause). Verify your subscription hasn't expired. Try a different channel. Restart the app. Check for app updates. If nothing works, WhatsApp support at +44 7401 410094.
The EPG isn't showing — how do I fix it?
Refresh the EPG in your app settings (Tivimate: Settings → EPG → Update EPG). Check your device's time zone is set correctly. Clear app cache and reload. The EPG loads automatically with Xtream Codes login — no separate URL needed.
